This is a recent commission which pushed me out of my comfort zone but had such a lovely message behind it.I welcomed the challenge!!
It was commissioned as a wedding gift, which eventually went to Scotland. The bird motif in my work is very stylised and isn’t representative of any bird species (even though i have been asked what species is it!) In this commission I was asked to represent the ‘Red wing’ in a in wintery scene with St. Flannans Cathedral in the background. The person commissioning the artwork was very open minded and we met half way in that we added the Red wing characteristics and colours but yet keeping it a little stylised. I felt the piece really worked.
The story behind this piece is lovely. The groom who received the commissioned artwork took it upon himself to keep an eye on the Red wings who were struggling during the cold wintery weather last year. He lives in Scotland now but was a native of Killaloe here so we included St. Flannans as a fitting back drop for the wintery scene.
I felt the piece really worked. Id love to explore this area of representing various bird species more realistically. Maybe a commission will bring me there again.
